Trina Shears Obituary

Trina Ronyse Shears, 72 years old of East Liberty, PA, departed this life on November 20, 2022 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. She was born April 18, 1950 to the late Henrietta Hughes Robertson and Willie “Squeaker” Robertson.
Trina graduated from Homestead High School in 1968 where she was the first black cheerleader in the school’s history. She later attended Duffs Business Institute where she obtained a legal secretary certificate. Trina worked for many years in the Allegheny Court System as a legal secretary where she was a master typist and an expert at shorthand, which gained her many accolades throughout her career. Later in life Trina tried her hand at many different roles. She was a cook at Granny’s Kitchen in Clairton, PA, a drug screener for the Allegheny Health Department and most recently a senior companion for Allegheny County Senior Program. Everybody knew Trina was one of the best cooks in town and she poured her love into feeding people. Trina was also a dedicated line cook for Zay’s Zays Ribs & Catering where she worked from its inception until she became ill.
Trina was a very active member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. She served as an usher and also headed the hospitality, bread and prison ministries. She was a devoted servant leader who did not miss an opportunity to tell you how good God had been to her. As a God-fearing woman Trina was a faithful tither and even paid her final tithes as she laid in her hospital bed. She loved the Lord with all of her heart as well her church home and church family. Even when Trina lost her voice, through a whisper she could still be heard saying “go head Pastor”, “preach Pastor” and “yes, yes, yes Lord”.
Trina loved many and was loved by even more. Family was everything to Trina. She had special relationships with each one of her grandchildren and was affectionately known as Gam, Gammy, G-Mom, Morning, Na-Na, and Mommy. She was an avid sports fan where she could be found most Sunday’s watching and cheering for the Steelers with Zay Zay by her side. Trina was truly an exceptional woman and if you knew her, then you know that no truer words have been spoken.
Trina was proceeded in death by her late husband, Melvin Shears, her brother Howard “Tony” Robertson, her second mother Elizabeth Miller whom she lovingly called Moms.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Yvette (Keith) Giles of Duquesne, Melanie Shears of Pittsburgh, Nichelle (Antwon)Rose of North Versailles, Kortni Shears (Jerome Corbett) of North Versailles and Alex Shears of Duquesne. Sisters Shirley, Chris and Margaret Miller and  Terrie “Poopsie” Hughes. Trina had 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  She also leaves to mourn sister-cousins Pamela Robertson and Patricia “Bun” Jackson.
